Barbara Flowers

I write a lot, am currently writing a novel, and post various stories online as I (almost ) complete them, often getting interesting feedback from  passing readers. These stories are a changing mix, usually only about five visible at any one time.

Between spending huge amounts of time on novel writing I stop intermittently and write something short for a break. My theme lately has been 'moral ambiguity'. People often die in these stories, and they also often have slightly strange sex lives (whatever that might be). Some of these stories offend my readers - feel free to  read them  HERE.

Getting published by a commercial publisher seems an unattainable goal and I found the pressure to aim at publication simply got in the way of writing. So it seemed easier to join the great band of writers who never really aspire to publication, or in fact didn't achieve it.  This group has some quite illustrious writers in it - for example Emily Dickenson and John Kennedy Toole, although I do not compare myself to either..

And for anyone who might be interested in assessing writing schools or courses I conducted  a survey of Writing courses in Australian Universities last year (2010), publishing an article about the results in the QWC's newsletter.  The raw data is attached as a couple of web pages with a link below. Writers Blog also has assessments of courses that I or other contributors have posted, so anyone interested might like to read some of those HERE
